Abstract

The research aimed to build and standardize a measure of innovative thinking and identify its effect on the high jump shooting skill of second-year handball students. As for the research procedures in which the researchers adopted the experimental method with two equal groups (control and experimental) with a pre-test and a post-test, as it is the best method that suits the nature of the problem, the research community was identified with students of the second stage in the colleges of physical education and sports sciences in the universities of (Basra, Thi Qar, Wasit, Misan) for the current academic year 2023-2024, numbering (333) students. (188) students were selected as a sample for the research, divided among colleges, with (50) students in (Basra,Thi-Qar, and Wasit) colleges and (38) students in (Misan). (24) students were selected from them and then they were randomly divided into two groups Control, experimental) with (12) students for each group. As for the innovative thinking scale, it consists of (30) items in its final form. Pre- and post-tests were conducted and the results were processed statistically using the statistical package (SPSS24) application. The results showed the superiority of the experimental group over the control group, and the researchers reached several conclusions, the most important of which is that the innovative thinking scale prepared by the researchers is considered a valid tool for measuring the level of innovative thinking among the research sample regarding the game of handball. Innovative thinking also contributed and achieved clear superiority for the experimental group in testing the shooting skill of jumping high with handball at the expense of the control group. The researchers recommended the necessity of adopting the innovative thinking scale with other age groups or educational stages, because it gave students the opportunity to know their cognitive and skill potential, which was a reason for the success of learning. As well as conducting other studies and research on samples and other variables.
